Why does a retry mask help a failed request get through?
Good question. What changes about the request after it fails once — is it the same payload, or a different shape?
Same payload. We just resend the bytes.
So if the bytes are the same, what does the mask actually change? Try to name the variable that moves.
Oh — the timing. The mask is just a way to retry with a different wall clock, not a different request.
Right. Now: where in your service does that clock actually live, and could a slower client ever beat a faster one because of it?

Built around hard questions

We do not make the subject smaller. We make the path into it clearer.
