# Product — Socrates

> The learning loop in detail.

Socrates is built around a single loop: **ask, follow up, recall, map**. The product surfaces that loop in every session.

## The loop

1. **Question.** Begin with the honest edge of your understanding.
2. **Dialogue.** The tutor follows the seam, not the surface.
3. **Recall.** Returns when the idea is yours.
4. **Connection.** Writes itself into your map.

## By the numbers

Across the last 90 days of production sessions:

| Measure | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Active learners | 1,240 |
| Median session length | 26 min |
| Returning learners at week 4 | 68% |

## The four product blocks

- **01 / Dialogue** — Stay with the part that does not make sense yet. The tutor follows your reasoning and offers a sharper question.
- **02 / Recall** — Bring an idea back before it fades. Recall prompts revisit useful moments in your own words.
- **03 / Knowledge map** — See the thread between the things you are learning. Questions form a growing map across sessions.
- **04 / Practice** — Check for understanding without performing certainty. Low-stakes questions reveal what holds and what is missing.

## Pieces of the loop

- **Socratic dialogue** — streaming responses with LaTeX, code, and inline diagrams.
- **Recall queue** — a small prompt queue that returns ideas on schedule.
- **Knowledge map** — relationships between ideas, visible across sessions.
- **Exam mode** — retrieval practice at the end of a study block.
- **Mistake book** — collects the seams in your explanations.
- **Multi-model** — pick a fast model for clarification, a deeper one for a long thread.
- **BYOK** — bring your own API key, supported from the Free tier up.

## Tools

- **Web search** — Descartes and Euclid.
- **Files** — upload a file, the tutor can read it.
- **Connectors** — bring external context into a session.
- **Scheduled tasks** — recurring recall prompts.
